Abolish the AFT: Senate Candidate JD Vance Pushes Radical Plan to Defend Liberty

What right is the right that protects all the others? The Second. Without it, without the hundreds of millions of guns and billions of rounds of ammunition floating around the US, what would defend your right to free speech or any other right granted you by the Bill of Rights, Constitution, or other Amendments to it?

Nothing. Some say the government will always respect those rights, and thus that we don’t need to arm ourselves to defend them, but they couldn’t be more wrong. Just look to the north, where Trudeau’s thugs are beating down protesters for daring to oppose the ruling regime. “Liberal democracy” or otherwise, the ruling class does what it wants to subjects. Armed citizens are an entirely different matter.

But, of course, the government has found a way to limit our ability to defend our rights: the ATF. Whether it’s showing up to burn down a compound with kids inside (Waco), shoot a mother in the head in front of her family (Ruby Ridge), or nitpick with gun and gun accessory manufacturers about whether a given weapon is technically a pistol or rifle, thus destroying businesses and potentially turning millions into felons overnight, the ATF likes to infringe upon your rights. If the Gadsden Flag had been made for a modern enemy, it’d probably be the ATF.

So, Senate candidate has a solution to rid the US of the ATF’s tyranny: just abolish it!

He said as much in a recent op-ed. After describing his experience purchasing his rifle and the fact that his purchase put him in an ATF database, a database that the law says shouldn’t exist, Vance has this to say about the tyrannical agency:

The ATF’s focus suggests radical change is needed. I want an ATF that prevents Mexican drug cartels from getting access to the most dangerous weapons in the world, while protecting my rights and those of my fellow citizens. The ATF is doing the opposite, so it’s time to get rid of it.

Some may wonder who will do the important work of ensuring criminal gangs and international terrorist organizations aren’t equipped with powerful weapons. It’s an important point, but this concern is actually well served by abolishing the ATF. When we strip funding from a bureaucracy that has failed to do its job, and we can redirect resources to groups that are actually keeping us safe.

Yes, the ATF could serve an important and valuable function, all while safeguarding the rights of citizens. But it doesn’t, so it’s time to start anew.

America needs LEOs to track down and stop cartel operatives. It doesn’t need a collection of what NRA president Wayne LaPierre called “jackbooted thugs” running roughshod over our rights, creating a database of law-abiding gun owners, and constantly assaulting the one right that protects all the others. Vance is right, it’s “time to start anew” by abolishing the tyrannical ATF and replacing it with an agency that can’t infringe upon our sacred right to keep and bear arms.
