Will Smith, the former box office megastar, has really seen his world crumble. As a celebrity, it’s hard to muster the requisite care and concern for him. He’s lived the ultimate life of privilege and it’s wholly unrelatable. As a person, though, it’s painful. Smith is living out some dreadful nightmare from which he seemingly can’t or won’t awake.
In August of 2020, Smith appeared on his Jada talk show and sat there as his supposed wife explained that conventional marriage (i.e. monogamy) didn’t do it for her. He simply sat there as she detailed her years-long affair with a much younger man. It was gross, selfish, and unthinkable. And Smith just let the world see how much of a beta he was.
Then came the infamous Oscars moment. He laughed, he slapped, he cursed, and then he partied. How is any of this explained other than a breakdown? (If it was staged, it’s hard to see how Smith comes out looking good – ever – so that explanation keeps getting less and less plausible).
Since the slap, Smith has been under investigation and resigned from the Academy of Motion Pictures. His agency is reportedly considering dropping him. He’s the butt of every joke and the originator of a meme template. It’s not been a good look and it was hard to see where else it would go. A rescinding of his Oscar? A lawsuit from Chris Rock?
Honestly, compared to what’s actually happening, those possibilities seem tamer. Turning in a trophy or writing a check come easy compared to enduring the furthering of public shame and humiliation with the announcement that Jada’s former paramour, a musician of sorts by the name of August Alsina, was releasing a single referencing the affair and even writing a tell-all book of the relationship, dirty deeds and all. If Smith thought he had reached peak emasculation, he was wrong.
According to The Daily Mail:
“Will Smith faces further humiliation amid his Oscars slap controversy, as the man who had an affair with his wife Jada Pinkett Smith is speaking out in a new song and rumored tell-all book.
‘Well, of course some s**t is bound to go down when you tangled up with the world’s favorite,’ August is heard singing in a snippet that he teased on Monday via his Instagram page.
It’s also been reported that August – who was 27 at the time of the affair with Jada – is set to write a tell-all book that will go into detail over their sex life.
‘August is getting ready to sign a big money book deal which will detail his romantic liaisons with Jada,’ a source claims to The Sun.
‘He has always maintained that Will gave him permission to sleep with Jada, something they have publicly denied.’
The source adds: ‘August will go into detail about his time with Jada and will also speak about how he spent time living in homes owned by Will when he was away filming.’”
If anyone thought this story was going away, it’s not. It is only getting a lot more interesting.
