Mark Mulvaney is the embodiment of neocon danger and delusion. Serving various roles in the swamp-bloated Trump administration, Mulvaney spent time as director of the Office of Management and Budget and White House Chief of Staff. With his other entrenched buddies who predated Trump, he no doubt contributes to the problems of D.C. politics than solutions.
Recently, in what can only be described as out of touch and wishful thinking on the part of anti-Trump sentiment within Establishment GOP circles, Mulvaney suggested Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, could pose a serious threat to a potential Trump bid in 2024 for the Republican nomination for president. There are bad takes, and then there are BAD takes.
How bad is this one?
Consider the fact that Johnson is an ardent supporter of Black Lives Matter. That fact alone will disqualify anyone from consideration; the overlap of Trump supporters and BLM supporters might number in the single digits. And, as more information comes out about the absolute corruption from within BLM management, they double not only as a domestic terror organization but as the newest example of how socialism really works. Opulence and extravagance for the narrative creators; destitution and dismay for the narrative believers.
Even if Johnson had a personal rebirth and saw BLM for what it was, would he be willing to go on record to denounce them? Puh-lease.
There is then the fact that The Rock openly admits that he doesn’t “know the first thing about politics or policy.” Look, I can live with the fact that he doesn’t know about politics. As far as I am concerned, the less the better. We have seen how politicians ruin everything. That being said, not knowing about policy is a problem. Not knowing policy sums up leftism: Do whatever feels good, damn the consequences.
Finally, there are these two quotes, courtesy of Breitbart, the first referencing the deadly George Floyd Riots and the second an official endorsement of Trump’s 2020 opponent:
“Where is our leader at this time, when our country is down on its knees begging, pleading, hurt, angry, frustrated, in pain? Begging and pleading with its arms out, just wanting to be heard…We must say the words: Black Lives Matter.”
“I have never publicly endorsed a presidential candidate or a vice presidential candidate in my life, over my career…officially publicly endorsing [Biden and Harris.] You’ve done great things. Joe, you’ve had such an incredible career.”
I am sure those quotes will play really well over the Trump crowd. And sure, people can change, but they don’t change THAT MUCH in four years.
A former Trump official going turncoat against the MAGA movement is not newsworthy. How many times have we seen former officials within the Trump orbit reveal themselves as nothing more than self-serving leeches, hoping to get rich quick on a book deal or acquire fleeting fame by revealing an insider secret?
However, the real news in this story is the display of complete ignorance as to the real reason why Donald Trump and the entire “Take Back America” message resonates so powerfully. Mark Mulvaney, like the rest of the stalwart, nincompoop Republican establishment, once more shows how disloyal it is to the actual conservative brand and reinforces the idea that Washington Republicans are in cahoots with Washington Democrats. They think some Republican squish who hates the average American is the best candidate to represent the average American.
Mulvaney is not alone. For the same reason that Mark Mulvaney thinks Dwayne Johnson is a threat to Trump’s still-ascendent charisma and political pull, others within this prostituted circle keep playing make-believe with their aspirations as well. Mike Pence hasn’t ruled out a bid for the Republican nomination in 2024. Liz Cheney hasn’t ruled out a presidential run in 2024; Mitch McConnell recently backed her in her failing effort to reclaim Wyoming’s lone House seat. Even Adam Kinzinger has an eye on a political future after abandoning any hopes for 2022.
The lesson to be learned in all of this is simple: We need a new party. Either the GOP embraces Trumpism or Trumpism branches off. There is no alternative.
