Disney’s legislature is holding a special session to deal with a few topics, namely the redistricting issue, and it looks like Governor DeSantis is gonna take full advantage of that to score an immediate and major victory over the woke Disney corporation, with Tim Swain tweeting out the news and saying:

That news came from a press conference where DeSantis said, while announcing that the legislature would consider taking away Disney’s special privileges as part of its meeting on determining congressional reapportionment in Florida for the next election, saying:
“we are expanding the call of what they are going to be considering this week and so…they also will be considering the termination of all special districts that were enacted in Florida prior to 1968 and that includes the Reedy Creek Improvement District.”
Describing what that means, Forbes reports that:
Reedy Creek, a special taxing district that was established through the 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement Act, covers Walt Disney World in Florida and essentially allows the theme park to operate as its own city, with control over everything from construction zoning, fire department services, water, roads, building codes and more.
DeSantis tweeted out the video of that statement and said:

The statement, while a major step up in the culture war fight between Florida and Disney, shouldn’t be a major surprise. DeSantis announced that such an attack might be in the cards back in March, saying:
“Disney has alienated a lot of people now. And so the political influence they’re used to wielding, I think has dissipated. And so the question is, why would you want to have special privileges in the law at all? And I don’t think that that we should.”
So, Disney was given fair warning. It knew that DeSantis and Floridians were mad about its far-left culture-war stance, knew that a revocation of its special privileges could be coming, and should have understood that DeSantis was going to take major action.
Yet it persisted in its bitter leftism, so DeSantis decided to act in a major way and take the fight to Disney in a serious way that might prove a warning to any other leftist companies that might be thinking about viciously attacking a state for daring to pass laws its constituents agree with and want but employees of California companies are against.
DeSantis is fulfilling yet another pledge and now he’s taking on Disney with a sledgehammer. This should be fun to watch; the woke corporation is about to reap what it’s sown in a major way.
