Before the scope of CNN+’s complete and utter failure was known, a report leaked that Chris Wallace was so upset about how terribly his network was doing, a network that he left a cushy job at Fox for, that he was having “daily breakdowns.” As I reported then:
That’s according to Jon Nicosia on Twitter, the same guy who said that CNN+ was failing long before any news on the success of the streaming platform had come out and who was later proven correct in that report. He, speaking about Wallace on Twitter, said:
SOURCE: Chris Wallace is “having daily breakdowns” over the “miserable launch” of @CNNplus . Wants a “CNN show or is threatening to walk” they go on. “He is having staffers count how many times a day his promo is playing”

Continuing the Twitter thread, he included an article from MSNBC about the struggles CNN+ is having and then added “SOURCE CONT’D: “He’s telling anyone that will listen he wants Cuomo’s old time slot”‘

In other words, Wallace is supposedly so upset by the complete failure of CNN+, which was supposed to be a huge thing both for him and the network, that he’s making the network promote him even more by putting him in its best time slot. Why it would do so if no one wants to watch him on CNN+ is not clear.
And, as a reminder, all that was BEFORE CNN+ announced its demise. Now things must be even worse, as CNN recently announced that CNN+ was done for.
“Warner Bros. Discovery has suspended all external marketing spend for CNN+ and has laid off CNN’s longtime chief financial officer as it weighs what to do with the subscription streaming service moving forward, five sources tell Axios,” Axios reported. The same article then added that:
- CNN+ has roughly 150,000 subscribers so far.
- Warner Bros. Discovery wants to eventually build one giant service around HBO Max.
- New leadership has replaced CNN CFO Brad Ferrer with Neil Chugani, Discovery’s current CFO for streaming and international, as part of a broader finance team restructuring.
- Other high-level positions at WarnerMedia across different business functions are likely to be eliminated to cut costs and streamline leadership in coming weeks.
What to watch: Sources say a plan is being considered to replace Chris Cuomo’s 9:00pm EST primetime slot with a live newscast, instead of personality-driven perspective programming.
That means there’s one opening for Wallace to recover: he wants Chris Cuomo’s old time slot and, apparently, it’s open.
The problem? It doesn’t sound like the sort of thing he’d be considered for. Wallace has said he wants to get out of politics and is a “personality,” not a reporter, so he’s probably not going to be dropped in that 9 pm slot.
So, Wallace’s network is getting blasted to smithereens and his one hope of recovering the prestige he had at Fox is likely just out of reach, as he’s not the sort of person that would be considered for the position.
Yet worse, Axios reported that “Other high-level positions at WarnerMedia across different business functions are likely to be eliminated to cut costs,” so it very well could be possible that Wallace’s neck is on the chopping block too. Isn’t it fun to watch the RINO that screwed over Trump in the presidential debate fail?
Trump certainly thought so, as he fired off a gloating, rubbing salt in the wound statement upon hearing the bad news for Wallace and CNN+, saying:
“Congratulations to CNN+ on their decision to immediately FOLD for a lack of ratings, or viewers in any way, shape, or form.
“It was like an empty desert out there despite spending hundreds of millions of dollars and the hiring of low-rated Chris Wallace, a man who tried so hard to be his father, Mike, but lacked the talent and whatever else is necessary to be a star.
“In any event, it’s just one more piece of CNN and Fake News that we don’t have to bother with anymore!”
