Woke, former princess Meghan Markle, thrice-wed wife of former Prince Harry, just got hit with some bad news from Netflix, which has been struggling as of late and recently saw its stock price crater after woke content and canceling Russian subscriptions led to it seeing its first subscriber loss ever.
Facing challenges and cutbacks thanks to that crash, you see, Meghan Markle’s upcoming animated TV show about a feminist teenager was just canceled, as Chuck Callesto tweeted out, saying:

Deadline reported on Netflix cutting the show, noting that the stock shock and subscriber plummet caused the streaming platform to drop the title, saying:
Even Netflix’s in-house members of the Royal Family are not immune to a wave of cutbacks going on as the streamer recalibrates after a precipitous stock drop incurred after a drop in subscribers. Netflix has quietly dropped Pearl, the working title of an animated series that was created by Meghan Markle through Archewell Productions, the shingle the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry set up at Netflix in fall of 2020 to create scripted series, docuseries, documentaries, features and children’s programming. Pearl was to be Archewell’s first animated series.
The cut show was meant to follow the adventures of a 12-year-old girl that learned from various influential women throughout history and was to be produced by the formerly royal couple’s “Archewell Productions” banner.
Meghan, speaking about the woke, feminist program at the time news of it broke, said:
“Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history. David Furnish and I have been eager to bring this special series to light, and I am delighted we are able to announce it today.”
It’s unclear how much the cancelation of the cartoon will cost the royal couple, though it will certainly hurt that now “Archewell Productions” won’t have a woke cartoon to showcase if they try to get into producing further woke cartoons.
Regardless, the duo and their production company still reportedly have a few other projects in the works with Netflix, projects that so far haven’t been canceled. The Guardian, reporting on those, notes that:
Other Archewell projects with Netflix, including the documentary series Heart of Invictus, about Harry’s Olympics-style Invictus Games for disabled former service members, are believed to be unaffected.
The former working royals, who live in Montecito, California, signed a multi-year deal with Netflix in September last year.
So, time will tell how much this hurts the formerly royal couple, but, even if those other projects do end up panning out, this certainly wasn’t a great start for them and Archewell.
