Another day, another blood-soaked weekend in Lori Lightfoot’s Chiraq, a city that seems intent on proving how far America has fallen and that American cities can be just as violent as Fallujah, Najaf, or Baghdad during the height of the Iraq insurgency.
Such was the case this weekend; as the nation focused on the horror show in Uvalde, where police sat by and watched as 19 students and 2 teachers were murdered over the course of an hour inside an elementary school, far more people were shot in what was just a normal weekend in Lori Lightfoot’s Chiraq.
There, as Breitbart noted, the Memorial Day weekend got off to a very bloody start with 21 people reported shot Friday night and early Sunday morning alone, four of the wounded victims eventually succumbing to their wounds.
Things only got worse from there, with an already blood-drenched weekend turning into even more of a recreation of 1990s Mogadishu as the Chicago Sun-Times reported that the number of shooting victims rose to 46 by the end of Memorial Day weekend and nine total victims succumbing to their injuries.
Breitbart, noting the scale of the killings and how the mass violence has only gotten worse over the past year, reports that:
The 46 Memorial Day weekend shooting victims in Mayor Lightfoot’s Chicago represent a increase over the number of shooting victims during the same weekend in 2021.
Breitbart News noted at least 33 people were shot, three of them fatally, in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago during Memorial Weekend 2021.
ABC7, adding more details about the bloody weekend, notes that the Chicago Police Department had to cancel the officers’ day off thanks to the bloodshed, which added yet more problems to the overloaded plate of a struggling police force.
The Chicago Police Force has grown undermanned in recent years, a problem likely caused by the hatred of police sparked by the BLM riots and George Floyd-induced “summer of love” that saw mass violence against police, a problem only likely to grow worse after the horror show that was the police response to the Uvalde shooting.
Police1, reporting on the staffing problems that Chicago’s police department is having, notes that:
Chicago Police Department has dropped its college credit requirement for some candidates in an effort to boost recruiting numbers, CNN reports. Like many police agencies, the CPD is struggling with staffing numbers in the face of a pandemic and social pressures.
[…]Last year, about 3,800 people took CPD’s entrance exam. Recent previous years saw as many as 22,000 test-takers.
All that being said, the mass shootings, standoffs with police, and seemingly random drive-bys that made up this weekend’s bloodshed in Chiraq aren’t anything special for Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago. While sad and savage, the outpouring of blood, multitude of murders, and massive crop of recently-wounded Chicagoans is nothing particularly special for a city known to be violent in a way that no American city should be. How much longer will Americans tolerate this?
