Sadly, not even a week after the tragedy in Texas, a 10-year-old Florida student decided it was a good idea to threaten a copycat type of attack on his elementary school.
Perhaps he didn’t think he would get into trouble, but he “f’ed around and found out”. The hard way.

A Florida sheriff is speaking out after a 10-year-old was arrested for threatening a mass shooting at his school, just days after 19 children and two teachers were killed in the Uvalde massacre.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno joined “Fox & Friends” Tuesday, warning “parents are afraid” to discipline their kids for fear of being reported.
Let that sink in for a minute. Ten years old! I certainly understand the decision-making at that age isn’t exactly top-notch, but what is happening with that child that he sees fit to make such a threat? Clearly, there is a lack of discipline at the root of such behavior.
What the youth didn’t take into consideration is the fact that he would have to deal with Lee County Sherrif Carmine Marceno, notorious for being one of the most bad-assed law enforcement figures in Florida, if not the country.
“When I was growing up, the nun hit you with a ruler, a wooden ruler,” Sheriff Marceno told co-host, Steve Doocy. “You understood what was right and wrong, and today, what do we do? Society says, well, if your parent disciplines you and there’s any kind of abuse, come forward, so we can report your parent.”
“So parents are afraid,” he continued. “They’re afraid to discipline their kids. Let’s get back to the old school.”
Marceno’s attitude is not just saber-rattling, nor a facade, as he is very well known in Southwest Florida for his tough stance on crime. One of the many reasons that the Fort Myers/Cape Coral areas are such desired places to live. You can feel safe.
“Our policy is zero tolerance,” Sheriff Marceno said. “The second we get a threat, no matter what that threat is, it’s considered real until proven otherwise. So we jumped on it immediately.”
“My message is consistent no matter what age,” Sheriff Marceno said. “If a 10-year-old, 12-year-old, 18-year-old presses a trigger, the aftermath is the same. I want people to see what’s going on, and I want them to know that this county, this state, this great state of Florida means business.”

“Right now is not the time to act like a little delinquent. It’s not funny. This child made a fake threat, and now he’s experiencing real consequences,” stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno.

As well it should be. Maybe it’s not too late for this young man. Perhaps seeing there are consequences to his action will wake up his parents and put him on a more narrow path.
Of course, that remains to be seen. There are a number of details yet to emerge around the incident. One thing remains clear though, people need to stay vigilant. Whoever alerted authorities to this boy’s text messages did the right thing, possibly saving lives. That’s how this sort of thing is avoided in the future. Not draconian gun laws.
Parents need to closely monitor their kids. Read their texts, talk to their friends, and know what they are doing.
The country also needs more law enforcement officers like Sheriff Marceno. A strong leader that isn’t afraid to be politically incorrect and upset a few libs in exchange for saving lives. No wonder people are flocking to Lee County in record numbers.
