It wasn’t that long ago when the left’s narrative on ‘gay rights’ was simple, straightforward, and easy to support: Let’s all be tolerant of one another, live and let live, and don’t discriminate. Tolerance is, after all, one of the fundamental tenets of the philosophy which drove America’s founding. But as the saying goes, “give someone an inch and they’ll take a mile,” which is the situation in which we find ourselves today.
The message of ‘tolerance’ eventually morphed into ‘acceptance.’ At some point late in the Obama Administration, our culture decided that it was inadequate to merely tolerate the shenanigans of the LGBTQ community, we needed to welcome them. This brings us to modern America, in which ‘acceptance’ has evolved into celebration. You’re only tolerant of LGBTQ lifestyles? Then you’re a bigot. You simply accept gay, lesbian, and transgender folks? How dare you.
Indeed, in America today, the relentless insistence from our friends on the left is that unless we rejoice for the LGBTQ crowd by wearing pride pins or posting rainbows on our Facebook page, we’re homophobic, transphobic, or something-else-phobic.
We are constantly bombarded by the ideology. The NHL had been the most conservative of the four major professional sports leagues, but now they are full-blown woke with Pride Month coinciding with their playoffs, and ‘pride’ imagery virtually everywhere we look during their broadcasts. We see it on virtually every channel and on every major network, whether through subtle adjustments to a network’s logo or via transgender or drag queen programming. And now, Burger King is injecting their woke, LBGTQ ideology into the very food people eat.
According to Entrepreneur:
“Burger King Austria rolled out the new campaign that features a rainbow background and two Pride whoppers alongside the slogan ‘Time to be proud.’”
A “Pride Whopper is a sandwich that has either two top buns or two bottom buns. Isn’t that clever? Makes sense, right? I didn’t think so. At its best, the campaign is a moronic attempt at cashing in on wokeness via simplistic virtue signaling; at its worst, Burger King is thumbing its nose at traditional and religious values in an attempt to indoctrinate. The report continues:
“The company also posted the new concept to its Instagram account alongside a lengthy caption, which (roughly translated) states that the Whopper represents ‘two equal buns for equal love and equal rights’ and that the sandwich is ‘meant to put a smile on our faces.’”
Burger King’s idiotic wokeness efforts are just the latest salvo in the culture wars, and those of us who are opposed to such pandering need to speak with our wallets. Enough is enough. The staff at The Blue State Conservative has compiled a list of “Woke Companies to Avoid,” comprised of 52 companies and growing, and you’ll find Burger King listed at #17. Want to send a message to the wokesters? Don’t buy what they’re selling: Either literally or figuratively.
