Sometimes when you mind your business and something happens that requires urgency, you just kind of move to help out somehow. This can be to protect your kids or yourself or help someone in dire need. We often hear about these scenarios happening, and the person who sprung into action sometimes says things like ‘a voice told me to’, or ‘I don’t know what I was thinking, I just,’ etc.
These types of scenarios are what we call hearing the Holy Spirit. He speaks to us so subtly that if you’re loud or concerned with anything else, you won’t hear Him. Even those who aren’t in Christ can be used by Christ, helping to change the lives of others. However, not everyone will believe, fathom, or even acknowledge this. Instead, we’ll chalk it up to them being at the right place at the right time, deem them heroes, and call it a day.
Well, one such story sees a hero who had flawless timing on Tuesday night when a vehicle drove off into the Great South Bay in Patchogue.
“I just hear a huge splash and everyone running toward the dock,” Anthony Zhongor, 17 years old, said.
Spectators ran and could hear the young driver franticly banging the door, screaming for help. Zhongor said he immediately evaluated the circumstance and noticed no one else taking a leap of faith and diving after the person who’d soon meet their maker, so he stepped up to the plate.
“That’s what really made me jump in the water, because she was banging on door trying to break it, kind of got scared. So I just jumped in,” he said.
At that point, he dove into the ice-cold water and opened one of the backdoors. He quickly pulled the driver out of the vehicle and helped her swim back to the dock before the car sank into the deep dark waters.
Zhongor mentioned, “Dying while suffocating is one of my worst fears, so I couldn’t imagine anyone going through that right in front of me. I feel like anyone would make that decision.”
There was an inconceivable appreciation from the victim’s dad. Charlie Samolinski thanks this young hero – Zhongor, on Wednesday for saving his 18-year-old daughter, Mia’s life.
While the other onlookers just stood there recording videos on their phones during the heat of the moment, this young man stepped up and made a difference. However, he doesn’t boast; his activities speak for themselves, as per the Marines who have enrolled him into the service.
Authorities said that Mia halted on the gas pedal rather than the brake. Her dad said she was humiliated and stirred up and was stressed over her folks’ response to losing the vehicle.
“She’s here today because of him,” her dad said. “A car can be replaced. Things can be replaced. My daughter? Irreplaceable.”
Was this just coincidence, or was there something more at work here? If you’re in the Word. Then you know, things like this are no coincidence. God bless Zhongor, Mia and her family, and all those involved.
