With his poll numbers plummeting, an economy in tatters, and the increasing likelihood of disastrous results for his party in the November midterm elections, the number of Democratic allies that have begun to turn on President Joe Biden has been growing by the day.
Less than a month ago, a member of The Squad and a key voice of the Democrats’ far-left base Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) refused to pledge her support for Biden if he chooses to run again in 2024. Anonymous Democratic members of Congress are openly questioning Biden’s ability to lead the party. And most importantly, Biden has been hemorrhaging support from Democratic voters, beginning only months after taking office.
There are indeed numerous signs to which we can point to illustrate the collapsing political framework of the Biden House of Cards: the man’s Administration is a mess. But there is perhaps nothing more indicative of Biden’s downward spiral than the clear erosion of support by the Democratic Party’s unofficial Department of Communications: otherwise known as the mainstream media.
In an article by the Washington Post today, Biden’s most recent example of blatantly lying about his past is called out, along with multiple other examples. Last week, Biden claimed the following:
“And I have written, way back, a number of law review articles about the Ninth Amendment and the — and the 14th Amendment and why that privacy is considered as part of a constitutional guarantee. And the — they’ve just wiped it all out.”
Without doing any investigation, Biden’s statement already stinks of falsehood. Our BS detectors are blaring their sirens and flashing their lights. We know nonsense when we hear it. Surprisingly, the Washington Post, which typically runs interference and makes excuses for anyone with a “D” next to their name, recognized Biden’s probable lie and looked into the claim:
“[T]he president has a tendency to sometimes embellish the factual record about his past. Earlier this year, he said he was arrested during civil rights protests when there was no evidence that ever happened. He also has claimed he was arrested for trying to see Nelson Mandela, but that was false.
These remarks about law review articles from the past caught our attention. Biden’s first campaign for the presidency, in 1988, collapsed after reporters discovered that Biden had flunked a class in law school for submitting a paper that borrowed heavily from another law review article without proper citation — and then made false or exaggerated claims about his law school record during a discussion months earlier with voters in New Hampshire.”
The Post’s article goes on to conclude, “The president stated he had written ‘a number of law review articles’ about these amendments. That’s gilding the lily — and a president must remain accurate about his achievements.” They then go on to award the president “two Pinocchios.”
Based on the facts the Post lays out, it’s unclear why Biden wasn’t awarded the maximum number of “Pinocchios.” For the Post to claim Biden “has a tendency to sometimes embellish” is like saying Michael Moore has a tendency to avoid exercise. The Washington Post is undoubtedly soft-pedaling Biden’s lies, but it’s a start. And the fact that Biden’s previously reliable accomplices are calling him out may be a sign of more frequent and extensive criticisms moving forward.
