Are the Democrats allies of the American people? Are the Democrats going to win elections in 2022?
According to North Las Vegas Democrat Mayor John Lee, who used to be a Democrat but is now running to keep his mayoral seat as a Republican, the answer to both questions is “no”.
In fact, according to him, the Democrats have gone looney and are completely “un-American” and it is the Republican Party, not the Democrats, that is the “clear favorite” in 2022.
He said as much when he appeared on Fox News to discuss his re-election race and took a hammer to the Democrats.
He began by describing how the Democratic Party have drifted away from his views and toward radicalism, particularly socialism, becoming “totally anti-American” in the process. In his words:
“The party moved past me. In fact, Democrats are now leaving that party in droves because of the socialist agenda that has taken place in the Democratic Party. They’re totally anti-American. There was nowhere for people who thought and felt like I did about the virtues and values and morals of being a good American. It was time to leave. They have destroyed the Democratic Party now.”
Continuing, he went on to say that the socialist agenda is not one he can stand for or with anymore and that the Democratic Party has changed dramatically in the past few decades, saying:
“They had an election recently for leadership, and four of the five people were card-carrying members of the Socialist Party. It’s not the party that I grew up with 25 years ago in this environment, and it’s not the party I can stand with anymore.”
He then went on to attack the Democrats as being a collection of elitists and socialists, one that no longer represents small business owners and the working class, saying:
“The working class, or working men and women of this country, and also the small business owners are not a part of the conversation anymore. It all has to do with the elitists and it has to do with the socialists. That is not the agenda that I have in mind for this country of the future.”
Finally, Lee went on to describe his views, views now much more associated with the GOP and Republicans than with the Democrats, saying that he hoped the party would change back, but it didn’t. In his words:
“When you’re a pro-life Democrat, a pro-gun Democrat, and you’re a very conservative person, that’s not really well known in the Democratic Party anymore. And so for me to hang on as long as I did, hoping the party would change, it didn’t, it got worse.”
Lee’s switch from Democrat to Republican was likely a very astute political choice. As Fox News recently reported, voters are switching from blue to red in droves, with even suburb-dwellers switching back to the GOP. In that outlet’s words:
More than one million U.S. voters have switched their party affiliation to the GOP over the past 12 months, painting a grim picture for Democrats in the 2022 midterms.
The GOP is benefiting most in the suburbs of large and medium cities, where voters who supported President Joe Biden in 2020 are struggling with inflation and growing increasingly critical of Democratic social issues, according to an analysis from The Associated Press.
Roughly 1.7 million Americans have changed their party affiliation over the past 12 months. Two-thirds of those have gone to the GOP, while just 630,000 have switched to the Democratic Party, according to the report.
For someone like Lee, that could make all the difference. Plus he no longer has to appease the blue hairs or cheer socialism.
