Good News for Legendary Basketball Broadcaster, BABY!

How about some good news for a change?

There’s enough strife, death, sadness and turmoil going on to last us all a lifetime. We have to celebrate and hold on to whatever good news we can.

Too many of the heroes and icons of our youth are dying. I understand of course that it’s inevitable, but it doesn’t make it any less sad. Everyone dies, and times change, even Alex Trebek finally succumbed to cancer. Cancer sucks.

That just means when we get good news, we hang on extra hard.

Anyone that has ever watched a college basketball game undoubtedly know Dick Vitale. The legendary broadcaster has been the voice of the game literally my entire life.

In recent years Dickie V. has battled cancer. Ironic considering how much money he has raised to battle the disease. Well recently Vitale got the news that anyone afflicted with cancer prays to hear. Let’s check Outkick for the story:

Dick Vitale is officially cancer free.

After battling cancer multiple times in a very short period of time, the legendary college basketball pundit tweeted Wednesday night he’s officially cancer free.

“Thank u to ALL of YOU that have sent me [prayer emojis],” Vitale tweeted to his followers and fans.

Absolutely fantastic news!

Vitale has been an important part of the success of college basketball, and a tireless fundraiser for cancer research.

After close friend Jim Valvano died from cancer in 1993, Vitale started the V Foundation for cancer research, and to honor his close friend.

Basketball fans have grown up listening to the sheer, unadulterated excitement in Vitale’s voice calling games. He brought a level of hype to even the most mundane matchups.

In short, Dick Vitale could call a WNBA game and make it sound exciting. (Please don’t!)

Vitale had to miss a lot of time from TV while battling cancer, and the fact he’s now cancer free should be a sign that he’ll eventually return to having a huge role, once again, in the world of college basketball.

Dick Vitale is an absolute star, and college basketball just doesn’t feel the same without him. He’s been a part of the sport’s DNA for decades.

Vitale isn’t just in remission; he is completely cancer free! A testament to the years of research his foundation has helped fund.

It had been apparent in recent years that Vitale’s energy and enthusiasm were waning as he battled cancer, with him being gone from the sidelines for long periods of time as he fought back.

Vitale had battled melanoma and lymphoma in just the past year alone.

Dickie V’s clean bill of health is a testament to the success of his foundation, the cancer research it has helped fund, and is a positive sign for anyone battling the disease now.

Welcome back Dickie V! The basketball world has missed you!
