A whistleblower report was made public on Wednesday claiming that the FBI was told to avoid investigating the Hunter Biden laptop scandal in the months leading up to the 2020 election.
According to the New York Post, FBI agents were told that their investigative teams were “not going to change the outcome of the election again,” alluding to their investigations into Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) penned an open letter to the Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz in which Johnson claimed, “These new allegations provide even more evidence of FBI corruption and renew calls for you to take immediate steps to investigate the FBI’s actions regarding the laptop.”
Johnson also claims that multiple “individuals with knowledge” had told his office that in the lead-up to the 2020 election, “local FBI leadership” ensured that the investigation was slow and eventually ended prematurely.
“You will not look at that Hunter Biden laptop,” Johnson quotes some FBI brass as telling investigators who feared giving Trump an advantage in the election.
“Further, these whistleblowers allege that the FBI did not begin to examine the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop until after the 2020 presidential election,” Johnson continued.
In Johnson’s letter to Michael Horowitz, Johnson explains that while the investigation into the laptop is ongoing, the FBI must clean up its own house to ensure a fair legal process.
“While I understand your hesitation to investigate a matter that may be related to an ongoing investigation, it is clear to me based on numerous credible whistleblower disclosures that the FBI cannot be trusted with the handling of Hinter Biden’s laptop,” stated the Senator.
In his plan for action, Johnson wrote that the FBI can begin correcting its missteps “by obtaining the history of the investigative actions taken by the FBI on Hunter Biden’s Laptop which should be available on the FBI’s case management system, Sentinel.”
Senator Chuck Grassley, who has also been critical of the FBI’s dismissal of wrongdoings by the current administration penned a similar letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray who would later admit that these allegations are “deeply troubling.”
These claims made by whistleblowers and later given an audience by two seated Senators are a major cause for a growing distrust that many Americans feel when the FBI is investigating any political matter.
As many commentators said at the time of the 2020 election, the FBI made republicans look foolish by denying any wrongdoings tied to the Hunter Biden laptop.
More importantly, by attempting to stay out of matters pertaining to the election, those actions directly impacted the results and are likely a major contributing factor to Biden’s electoral victory.
By remaining silent on the investigation, or maybe even ending the investigation prematurely, the FBI ensured that their hand was ever-present in a rocky election cycle, just as they had done ini 2016.
For an investigative agency to fear the consequences of the truth, and therefore to not pursue any answers, is a deep betrayal of their duty as protectors of this country and as arbiters of facts.
