Cleotha Abston, the career criminal and lifelong repeat violent offender, was officially charged with the murder of kindergarten-teaching, mother-of-two Eliza Fletcher. Upon receiving the the first-degree murder charge, the judge in the case revoked his bail. Fletcher went for a run last Friday morning and never returned.
The judge presiding over the case stated that “[i]n light of the change of circumstance, I’m going to order that there be no bond. The $500,000 bond is revoked.” The death penalty is also on the table for the defendant should he be found guilty.
As is all too often the case, this crime could have been avoided altogether if the criminal justice system functioned as designed. Abston has produced nothing of value for society his entire life – he will have entered and left this world as a net-negative, offering only harm, pain, and suffering upon those with whom he itneracted.
Fox News reported on his lengthy violent and criminal history, which began at an age when most pubescent boys are still wearing braces and being awkward around girls.
Cleotha Abston-Henderson, the 38-year-old Memphis, Tennessee, manaccused in the kidnapping and murder of Eliza Fletcher, a teacher and mother of two, was only 16 when he began a 20-year prison term for kidnapping another victim at gunpoint.
Abston-Henderson’s criminal past began when he was even younger with charges that included aggravated assault and rape. He told investigators that he dropped out of school after ninth grade, according to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital, but they found no evidence that he’d attended his stated high school at all.
Authorities confirmed to Fox News Digital on Tuesday that a juvenile court found it to be true that Abston-Henderson, who is also known by the alias “Pookie,” committed a juvenile delinquent act of rape against an unnamed suspect when he was 14.
The case as a sixteen-year-old is a harrowing tale of armed robbery and abduction. According to Fox, Abston kidnapped a local lawyer by the name of Kemper Durand at gunpoint, tossed him into the trunk of his car, then proceeded driving around the city demanding the victim withdraw money from countless ATMs.
This came after, according to Durand’s own victim statement, mentioned a rap sheet longer than hero of the left George Floyd.
“I understand that [Abston’s] record goes back to 1995, when he was about 13 years old, and shows juvenile court matters in every year — 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. He obviously never learned any lesson from his encounters with the law.”
After being found guilty of this crime, Abston was handed a twenty-four-year sentence, of which he served twenty. In other words, after a life of crime from the age of thirteen to sixteen, he spent the rest of his life behind bars. And we thought he woul come out better?
Abston should still be rotting in prison. Not only did he demonstrate his sociopathic, anti-human tendencies at a young age, as Durand mentioned he had no interest in reforming. He should never have been released, let alone paroled early. Now, because he was out on the streets, Eliza Fletcher is dead and two young boys will grow up without a mother.
The death penalty is too generous.
