Republican Senators Share Concerns About Hunter Biden Investigation

Republicans in the House and Senate are moving to increase the intensity of the ongoing Hunter Biden investigation.

In a letter that was penned by Sen. John Cornyn, Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Chuck Grassley, and Minority Leader Mitch McConnel, Republican Senators are wary of political interference that may be present in the investigation into the President’s son.

According to a Fox News report, the letter is set to be sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland on Monday.

“As you know, The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware – led by U.S. Attorney Weiss – has been investigating Hunter Biden.

There is no way of knowing the entire scope of the investigation, but evidence seems to be mounting that Hunter Biden committed numerous federal crimes, including, but not limited to, tax fraud, money laundering, and foreign-lobbying violations,” alleges part of the letter.

Next, the Senators request that the Department of Justice use its powers to protect both the U.S. Attorney Weiss and the integrity of the investigation while it runs its course.

“Under Department of Justice regulations and federal law, you have the power to provide special counsel authorities and protections to U.S. attorney Weiss.

Given that the investigation involves the President’s son, we believe it is important to provide U.S. Attorney Weiss with special counsel authorities and protections to allow him to investigate an appropriate scope of potentially criminal conduct, avoid the appearance of impropriety, and provide additional assurances to the American people that the Hunter Biden investigation is free from political influence.”

U.S. Attorney Weiss was appointed by Donal Trump in 2018 and has remained in his role ever since.

President Biden chose not to have Weiss removed from the role in order to dissuade the public from thinking that he planned to interfere with Hunter’s ongoing investigation.

“Given the politicization of the DOJ under your watch and the importance of avoiding any appliance of impropriety,” the letter says to Garland, “the undersigned request that you provide U.S. Attorney Weiss the full protections and authorities of a special counsel.” This is one important action that you can take that will go a long way to restoring faith in our governmental institutions.”

Joe Biden spoke about his son’s public image, and whether it gave him concern regarding a potential 2024 candidacy, on 60 Minutes on Sunday.

“I love my son, number one. He fought an addiction problem. He overcame it. He wrote about it. And, no, there’s not a single thing I’ve observed at all that would affect me or the United States relative to my son Hunter,” President Biden said.

Hunter Biden has been a hot topic of discussion among many in the political world.

The beleaguered son of the President has come under fire for photo evidence of crack-cocaine use, and also for his employment at a Ukrainian company during the time that his father handled the United State’s Ukrainian relationship.

Now a waiting game begins, as Attorney General Garland decides how he will respond to this letter.
