Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis was busting jokes on disgraced Gavin Newsom so bad that Democrats got stirred up over it. The Governor of California sent a letter to the Department of Justice saying, ‘You need to prosecute Texas and Florida governors’. Ron chimed in saying, “I think his hair gel is interfering with his brain function,” following Newsom calling for the Department of Justice to investigate his immigration tactics.
This led to an escalating war of words unfolding between the two Governors, as Newsom took the fight to Twitter to make a quip about hairstyles, and to challenge DeSantis to a debate before November’s midterm elections, a debate that wouldn’t make any logical sense because they’re not running for anything against each other.
“Hey @GovRonDeSantis, clearly you’re struggling, distracted, and busy playing politics with people’s lives. Since you have only one overriding need — attention –let’s take this up & debate. I’ll bring my hair gel. You bring your hairspray. Name the time before Election Day,” tweeted the California Governor following DeSantis’ comments, according to ABC 7 News.
DeSantis and his Texas counterpart, Governor Greg Abbott, sending migrants from their states to Democratic strongholds is where their feud is coming from.
After DeSantis sent 50 people to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, this is one of the most high profile instances coming recently.
A move both politicians are attempting to use to their advantage, says Phil Matier, a news insider. Matier said: “Ron DeSantis and Gavin Newsom were made for each other. They’re both striding, they’re both young, they’re both very ambitious, and this is a way to get on the national platform.”
But to move politics aside, it’s important to remember that these migrants are human beings, activists say. Christian Arana, of the Latino Community Foundation, said: “That’s the unfortunate thing that these Republican governors in these other states are playing into this political theater. Because they think that by treating immigrants like this, that they ultimately may win votes in their next election.”
Democrats were criticized harshly for being pro-immigration and for sanctuary cities, but certainly evacuated 50 migrants very quickly. The Democrats were called hypocrites for saying one thing, as long as it’s “not in my backyard” according to critics.
