A Los Angeles Pastor named John MacArthur whose a letter to Gavin Newsom on Thursday regarding the Democratic Governor’s pro-abortion billboards that he has placed all over the county.
The billboards touted California as a safe haven for abortion and the women who seek them.
Newsom invoked the words of Jesus Christ on the billboard, which MacArthur has taken major issue with.
MacArthur says that this abortion campaign has “revealed to the entire nation how thoroughly rebellious against God,” Newsom has acted.
Newsom has bought billboard space in Indiana, Mississippi, Ohio, Texas, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Oklahoma, in an attempt to sway voters in those states.
One such billboard in Texas tells passersby that “Texas doesn’t own your body. You do.”
Another advertisement tells readers, “Need an abortion? California is ready to help.”
On the bottom of the billboard is a quote of Mark 12:31.
“Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these,” reads the billboard.
“You further compounded the wickedness of that murderous campaign with a reprehensible act of gross blasphemy, quoting the very words of Jesus from Mark 12:31 as if you could somehow twist his meaning and arrogate His name in favor of butchering unborn infants,” wrote MacArthur. “You used the name and the words of Christ to promote the credo of Molech (Leviticus 20:1-5). It would be hard to imagine a greater sacrilege.”
“Furthermore, you chose words from the lips of Jesus without admitting that in the same moment He gave the greatest commandment: “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30). You cannot love God as He commands while aiding in the murder of His image-bearers.”
MacArthur also blasted Newsom during one of his recent sermons for using the word of God to promote abortions.
“A line was crossed this week that really gripped my heart,” began the pastor.
“I say this because my heart is grieved that Christ should be so dishonored. Billboards across the country with the words of Jesus trying to support abortion? Terrifying,” MacArthur said.
Newsom is not only advertising abortion services in other states. He also have signed a large amount of pro-abortion legislation to turn California into a sanctuary state for women seeking abortion all over America.
MacArthur has had other noteworthy run-ins with the California Governor. In 2020, the pastor defied the strict gathering and social distancing rules that Newsom put in place during the height of the Covid pandemic.
MacArthur’s church ended up receiving a 400,000 settlement after the Supreme Court ruled that the church should be exempt from the State’s Covid policy and restrictions.
“MacArthur drew on all of these disagreements with Newsom when he spoke to his community about the Governor’s soul.
“Governor Gavin Newsom, who has decided that he is going to lead the nation in providing the slaughter of the children that God created in the womb has postured himself as if he were Herod. And I am deeply concerned for the jeopardy of his eternal soul.”
