Supsect Captured in Connection to California Serial Killings

As pop culture idolized Jeffrey Dahmer, another serial killer terrorized Stockton, California in a spree of six killings.

Now, a suspect has been caught and named by Stockton Police Chief Stanley McFadden, who gave a news conference to speak about the ongoing investigation.

The suspect is Wesley Brownlee, 43 years old, and he was being tracked by a police surveillance team when he was “out hunting” and “on a mission to kill” at 2 a.m., according to the Police Chief.

“His patterns were consistent with some of the patterns that we have seen,” McFadden said. “He was around parks, around dark places, stopping, looking around, moving again. And at that point, we thought, for the safety of the public, it was best to take this person in.”

“We are sure we stopped another killing,” said McFadden.

Brownlee was dressed in all-black clothing from head to toe and had a black face mask around his neck. McFadden also confirmed that Brownlee had a firearm in his possession.

Brownlee will be arraigned on Tuesday, and a press conference will follow to announce charges and future court dates for the case.

“My Deputy District Attorneys, who have been here all night, are reviewing the evidence as we speak and they’re working actively in partnership with the investigation to determine the charges that will proceed on,” said the San Joaquin Country District Attorney.

Earlier this month, the reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the six killings climbed to $115,000.

Ballistics reports confirmed to the police department that all six killings were related and that the same firearm was used in each event.

Video footage was found by Stockton Police of a person of interest, although he was not seen committing crimes on camera.

Police Chief McFadden said that the person in the video had a limp and uncommonly upright posture, which would help police identify them in further surveillance videos.

“By definition, these shootings are a series of killings, so we do believe we could have a potential serial killer, that’s how we are going to treat it, as such,” McFadden said.

One woman who survived an attack from the Stockton serial killer was able to provide a further description of her attacker. He stood between 5’10” and 6’, wearing dark clothing and a black face mask. The man did not say anything to her before or after firing bullets in her direction.

“It wasn’t a robbery. Items aren’t being stolen. They’re not talking about any gang activity in the area or anything,” said the police chief. “It’s just element of surprise.”

“He likely ‘hunts’ regularly and strikes when everything is just right: single victim, no witnesses in the immediate area, likely an area without video coverage,” said CNN Law Enforcement Analyst John Miller.

“Given past cases and offender characteristics, it is likely that he goes ‘hunting’ much more often than he kills,” said Miller.

More updates will become available Tuesday after the suspect is properly arraigned.
