TOP TWITS TERMINATED: Twitter’s Top “Leadership” Gets the Pink Slip as the Company Prepares for Musk

Though he’s currently in a bit of a tiff with Twitter over the number of fake/spam/bot accounts on the platform and thus what it’s really worth, Elon seems intent on eventually pushing through the Twitter purchase deal in some form or another.

What that will mean for users of the platform isn’t completely clear, as Musk has signaled a strong support for free speech on Twitter on one hand but is also known to be against anonymity.

He’s also said he wants to “unlock value” at the company, but what exactly that means is equally ambiguous. It could mean minor tweaks that make Twitter a more pleasant experience for users, or it could mean things as outside the norm as making Twitter a pay-to-use platform for some commercial users of it.

But while Musk’s intentions regarding the usability and censorship regime on Twitter aren’t totally clear, what is obvious is that he intends on seriously reworking who the company employs.

Whereas Twitter has been, up until now, known as one of those companies that employs leftist ideologues rather than the best and brightest in the field, Elon has indicated that he intends on only employing those who are the best at what they’re doing.

On that point, he posted on Twitter that he thinks all those employed by the company, even at the management level, should be technically excellent and that the company will be focused on development rather than ideology:

If Twitter acquisition completes, company will be super focused on hardcore software engineering, design, infosec & server hardware

I strongly believe that all managers in a technical area must be technically excellent.

Managers in software must write great software or it’s like being a cavalry captain who can’t ride a horse!

Also, work ethic expectations would be extreme, but much less than I demand of myself

And now that process has apparently begun, with The New York Times reporting that Twitter has started letting certain executives go, handing them the proverbial pink slip and cardboard box to clean out their desks.

Hannity, reporting on what’s going on over there, said:

According to a report from the New York Times, two top executives at Twitter have been let go from the company; CEO Parag Agrawal said it’s “critical to have the right leaders at the right time” in an internal memo.

“Kayvon Beykpour, Twitter’s general manager, is leaving and will be replaced by Jay Sullivan,” The New York Times reported. “Mr. Sullivan is currently the interim general manager of the consumer product. Bruce Falck, Twitter’s general manager for revenue, is also departing the company.”

That’s corroborated by Beykpouor’s own Twitter account, as he posted an update saying, as part of a long thread (click below to read it):

“The truth is that this isn’t how and when I imagined leaving Twitter, and this wasn’t my decision. Parag asked me to leave after letting me know that he wants to take the team in a different direction.”

That different direction is presumably toward technical excellence and profitability rather than rampant wokeism.
