MTG on War Room: “We are the Base,” GOP Needs to Ditch Centrists

Congresswoman Majorie Taylor Green came out swinging on Steve Bannon’s War Room. Her message? It’s time for the GOP to ditch the centrists and moderates and start promoting real conservatives, politicians that reflect the priorities of the conservative base.

Describing that, she said “We are not the fringe. We are the base….We need to represent traditional family values and America first policies. That’s how the GOP conference can win elections and never lose again.

Greene, reiterating her comments on Twitter, had this to say:

Providing more context for Greene’s comments and the internicine strife in the GOP between the MAGA side and Conservative, Inc. sid, the Washington Examiner notes:

Greene and other outspoken conservatives have recently stepped up their criticism of GOP leaders, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, for either working with Democrats or not punishing Republicans who have joined with Democrats to pass elements of President Joe Biden’s agenda.

They have also taken on centrists in the party who are upset with their hot, anti-Democratic rhetoric.

Greene, for example, took a new swipe at fellow Rep. Nancy Mace, a South Carolina Republican who has called for a Twitter truce with Democrats and chided Rep. Lauren Boebert for critical comments of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar.

It remains to be seen if Greene’s populist perspective on the future of the conservative movement or the more corporate, restrained vision of McConnell, McCarthy, and such other political leaders of the GOP.

However, given that President Trump is doing much better in pre-primary polling than the potential Conservative, Inc. candidates, it seems likely that Greene’s perspective will win, at least in the short term.
