There is perhaps no better example of gaslighting by today’s Democratic Party than when it comes to the issue of “Defund the Police.” In the aftermath of the death of George Floyd in the spring of 2020, the mantra was all the rage in leftwing, Democratic circles. Their media, their spokespeople, their elected officials – all of them – were singing the same song: Police are evil, the system is racist, and we need to put our tax dollars to use doing something else.
The movement never made any sense. Anyone who is old enough to remember the days of high-crime cities or who has watched movies like Taxi Driver and French Connection understand that a lack of law enforcement yields lawlessness. And lawlessness yields more lawlessness. Such a strategy will inevitably result in spiraling crime, and much of that crime will likely be of the “violent” variety. Now, two years later, that highly predictable outcome has indeed come to fruition.
Since 2020 and their verbal attacks against police, Biden Administration officials have repeatedly tried to walk back their undeniable support for decimating our police departments. Biden Adviser Cedric Richmond tried this angle, “Republicans are very good at staying on talking points of who says ‘defund the police,’ but the truth is, they defunded the police.” Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki sang a similar tune, pointing to the GOP’s failure to support a Democratic spending bill with a pittance set aside for police funding.
But try as they might, Democrats will not be able to erase our memories. Their unconditional and full-fledged support for pulling dollars from law enforcement and channeling funds to their favorite government waste programs is indelibly etched into our brains. And thanks to the account of “RNC Research” on Twitter, we now have almost seven minutes of consolidated footage; a veritable “Who’s Who” of Democrats supporting the movement. Watch:
Democrats claim they don’t support Defunding the Police.

So, what’s changed? Why have the Democrats piped down on their drum-banging and done everything possible to have us forget about their push to defund our police? Reality has set in, that’s what’s changed.
There are a variety of emotions that motivate us, particularly when it comes to voting. With the Democrats in 2020, they did their best to instill anger in the electorate, painting George Floyd as an innocent victim and police everywhere as corrupt and bloodthirsty. Compassion is another emotion that can change how we view candidates and issues, and is one that Democrats often attempt to exploit. But there is one emotion that drives public opinion more than any other: fear.
Right now, more than anything else, Americans of all colors and creeds are afraid. We fear for our long-term financial stability as we watch the values of our 401K accounts plummet. We fear losing our jobs as corporations consider cost-cutting measures due to runaway inflation. We fear for the safety of our country after our spineless president has abandoned Afghanistan, emboldened an imperialistic Russia, and is enabling the Chinese Communists who are hellbent on global domination. And thanks to “Defund the Police,” Americans everywhere fear for their personal safety with out-of-control violent crime spreading like wildfire.
The Democrats’ soft-on-crime rhetoric and governance produced almost instantaneous jumps in crime rates. In 2020, nationwide violent crime surged by almost 30%, mostly in Democrat-run cities. Maybe that was a statistical outlier, you say? Wrong. Violent crime in America didn’t subside in 2021, it increased again, with homicides increasing by another 5% over 2020. And as we stand at the halfway point of 2022, the statistics are looking even worse.
Violent crime in New York City is up an unthinkable 40.6% in 2022 compared to last year. Chicago, which has been a bloodbath for years now, is up 35% year-over-year. And things are so bad in California that one criminal-loving prosecutor has already been voted out of office, and another may be on his way out the door.
It’s not surprising that Democrats are now trying to rewrite history and distance themselves from “Defund the Police.” It was an idiotic idea from the beginning, and that idiocy that they have sown has now produced rampant crime. Yet, as bad as the polls may look now for Democrats, just wait until October when Republicans can start running videos like this one from RNC Research. Democrats own “Defund the Police,” and they own the carnage it has generated. And let’s not allow them to forget it.
