Following Brian Stelter being hilariously and humiliatingly fired from CNN by new management, it’s looking increasingly like Stelter’s was simply the first head to fall to the guillotine and like there might be a number of others that the new management is ready to get rid of.
Particularly, the current rumor swirling around is that both Don Lemon and Jim Acosta are the next big names at the failing network who might be given the pink slip, though it’s unclear just how likely it is that they’ll go the way of Stelter and Zucker.
But, in any case, even if Acosta and Lemon aren’t at risk of being told to drop their stuff in a box tomorrow, right now no one at CNN should feel too safe in their position.
That’s because the new CEO, Chris Licht, is intent on repairing the financial health of the network and getting rid of those who aren’t doing what they’re supposed to or not helping its bottom line, with trendingviews reporting that:
Sources that attended the editorial meeting reported that Licht told CNN employees, “There will be moves you may not agree with or understand.” Some took that to mean they may not like some of the changes. Allegedly, Licht also said that he wanted to acknowledge to everyone that “this is a time of change” and it is unsettling.
Several media reports about CNN’s plans provoked some irritation from Licht, who described them as incorrect assumptions. The executive emphasized to staff that only a handful of people in the inner circle of CNN management know about these plans. “No one is safe or secure right now,” stated a CNN staffer to Deadline. An unnamed person from CNN told The Hollywood Reporter that “people are legitimately sad” that Brian is leaving. “He was a big presence at the network — but understand that Chris has to put his stamp on the network,” according to the same source.
Speaking at a recent meeting at City Hall, Licht assured staff members that the network will not resort to mandatory layoffs. According to him, the brass is in the process of examining the entire organization to see if resources are being deployed effectively. There will likely be changes as a result of that process, Licht said.
But, while names might still be somewhat hidden, there’s an obvious type of CNN employee that Licht wants to fire, one that’s pretty easy to discern.
That type of employee would, of course, be the sort of political hacks that the network hired or promoted during the Zucker era, people like Brian Stelter that are nothing more than leftist hacks.
Commenting on that, insiders say that Stelter was fired because “he is everything that reminds the new owners of the Zucker era they desperately want to get past.”
Licht, who wants to make the network less partisan is not only intent on getting past that era but is willing to be the “bad guy” to do it, firing those anchors like Stelter that are either too partisan or unwilling to fall into line. Such a type would obviously include Trump-hating Jim Acosta and far-left Don Lemon, though whether they’ll be fired too, as Jon Nicosia pointed out on Twitter, saying:
Source: Once the coming shakeup at @CNN is done, don’t expect John Berman, Alisyn Camerota, Jim Acosta, Brianna Keilar, Jake Tapper, John King, and Don Lemon to still be at the network OR have their current show assignments.”
They go on “The final ‘stay or go’ has not been finalized and more names will be added”
Source: Stelter was a ‘go’ because “he was seen as working against current management’s goals. Leaking, stirring disatisfaction internally.” One CNN source went on to say “He started believing he was the only thing between ‘democracy’ and anarchy”
Adding to that, Nicosia then added that:
An example. This “insider” is likely Stelter or his producer: https://t.co/4rcbo4O9gS

Townhall commented on what’s going on at CNN as well, noting that the firings of the leftie show heads might now be a bad move because of how the political winds are shifting, saying:
Ironically, these moves could be bad timing. For CNN, keeping liberals’ massive egos inflated and their moral superiority complex confirmed is their bread and butter. Conservatives and normal people rolled their eyes at CNN during the Trump years. Still, liberals were loyal, insane, and glued to these clowns who couldn’t even get a time stamp right regarding a series of emails portrayed as a significant smoking gun during the Russian collusion fiasco.
If Trump runs again, the network will need Lemon, Acosta, and others to kick the hornet’s nest again. At the end of the day, while I know gutting CNN of their liberal cancers would be optimal, it’s also a business. So, I could see this going either way regarding these potential firings. The new top brass could get rid of these folks and tread water for 2024, hoping their recent relaunch doesn’t implode. Or they do a 180-degree turn, keep the Trump-hating hosts and contributors, and make a boatload of cash again.
Given that CNN has already been run into the ground, it’s hard to believe that it will make a comeback and start doing well now, though theoretically anything is possible. At the ver least, firing The Potato was a good step in whatever direction they want to go.
