Those chanting “defund the police” might as well be chanting “death to the police,” because cops didn’t just lose their funding this year, they also got killed in record numbers.
That’s according to the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund, which reported that 2021 was the deadliest year on record for American cops, many more of whom were killed in the line of duty this year than in previous years on record.
And how many deaths is that? Well, as Just the News reports:
In 2021, estimates range from 358 to 477 officers killed in the line of duty. Both numbers are still significantly higher than previous years. Using preliminary data, compared to 2020, firearms-related fatalities are up 31% and traffic-related fatalities are up 30%.
And, to be clear, that’s deaths in the line of duty, not all deaths. Many more died from Covid or other causes, further straining departments.
Further, of the many cops killed in the line of duty, 70 were killed feloniously, according to FBI statistics, which is more than a 50% increase from 2020, when 46 were feloniously killed.
Yet worse, “ambush-style attacks,” according to the Fraternal Order of Police, were up an astounding 126% since last December.
Another 56 were killed accidentally, which compares to 45 killed accidentally in 2020.
With such a heavy death toll weighing on America’s police officers, it’s no wonder that they’re quitting in droves.
