Let’s try a thought exercise with a question to consider: What occupation, particularly in the current decade, has become increasingly difficult to perform and endure?
During the COVID pandemic, our doctors and nurses were stretched thin, stressed out, and overwhelmed. But healthcare professionals were widely regarded as heroes during COVID – true heroes – and they received heaping appreciation. There are teachers, no doubt, who would consider their vocation as a candidate for this discussion, claiming they are under-appreciated and unfairly targeted, and some may have a point. And, of course, firefighters have always faced major challenges.
But, if we’re being honest, is there any doubt that regular police officers, the ones on the streets every day who are interacting with the public and trying to keep our communities safe, have seen their jobs, more so than any other profession, go from difficult to impossible?
In a country of 350 million, any cop or sheriff that puts on a uniform and badge every day faces the possibility of a potentially deadly encounter. Depending on the jurisdiction, the pay for their services can be severely lacking. Based on a recent rash of retirements in departments around the nation, most towns/cities/counties are dangerously understaffed. And since the death of George Floyd in the spring of 2020, calls to “defund” their departments and impossible levels of scrutiny have continued unabated.
Seriously: Who in their right mind would want to become a police officer right now?
Perhaps because of these reasons, or maybe due to a culmination of other factors, one cop in New York City recently showed that he’d had enough and let loose on one citizen who inexplicably decided to start striking him. He was having none of it. Watch:
Finally, the cops ain’t taking it anymore.

Is it acceptable for a man to hit a woman? In almost all situations, absolutely not. But in this footage, we see a rare exception.
Here’s a good rule of thumb: Don’t hit a police officer. Ever. Don’t hit him or her for any reason, no matter how justified you may feel you are, even if you’re a relatively petite member of the fairer sex. Cops on duty are targets, and they know it. Police have been trained to be hyper-aware of their personal safety because the reality is that there are people who despise them and would like nothing better than to commit violence against them. And while this isn’t a new phenomenon, the constant vilification of cops over the past two years has just made things worse.
In the video, we don’t know for sure what type of incident the police are dealing with, be we can be certain that it was serious. We can see at least seven officers responding to what appears to be some type of domestic or community dispute. Tempers are obviously flaring, and we can sense that things might get out of hand in a hurry. It is at this point that the young woman incredibly decides to hit the officer, and she gets what’s coming to her.
What’s particularly interesting is the outrage we hear from the onlookers. We hear one man yell, “Yo, why would you do that? She’s just a little girl, bro!” But that question shouldn’t have been shouted at the cop, it should have been asked of the not-so-bright young woman lying on her back. Why would she do that? Don’t you know you should never hit a cop?
Finally, at the risk of stating the obvious, in America today there are much more effective ways to deal with police. If you have a legitimate gripe with the cops, or even an illegitimate gripe, any Democratic official will be more than happy to listen to your complaint, and we know that a complicit media will be ready and waiting to take your side. Virtually everyone has a smartphone with video capability, so take your videos and then make your case. But to approach a cop, get in his face, and then strike him? Yup, that’s a really bad idea and one that should result in you getting put on your ass and then locked up.
Good for this police officer, whoever he is, and may God bless our men and women in blue.
