During an interview with the Daily Signal on Thursday, Republican Senator Rand Paul urged the trucker convoys to come to the United States to “clog up cities.”
“I’m all for it,” Paul said to The Daily Signal. “Civil disobedience is a time-honored tradition in our country, from slavery to civil rights, to you name it. Peaceful protest, clog things up, make people think about the mandates.”
“And some of this, we started,” the Senator continued. “We put [COVID-19] mandates on truckers coming across the border from Canada so they put mandates on, and the truckers are annoyed. They’re riding in a cab by themselves, most of them for eight, 10-hour long hauls, and they just want to do what they want to do. It’s their own business.”
“It’d be great, but the thing is, it wouldn’t shut the city down because the government workers haven’t come to work in two years anyway,” Paul said. “I don’t know if it’ll affect D.C. It’d be a nice change. We’d actually have some traffic.”
“I hope the truckers do come to America,” he went on to say. “I hope they clog up cities.”
While discussing the ongoing protests, Paul said people are creating a “break in the dam” against Democrat’s COVID-19 restrictions.
“Several Democratic governors are finally sort of relinquishing,” he explained. “What they’re finding is, moms and dads are upset about this. They’re not just Republican. Everybody’s upset about this. They’re annoyed that their little kids have to be in a mask.” Watch him here:

Editorial Note from GenZ:
Senator Paul’s comments are highly important because they show that the narrative on the Freedom Convoy is gradually shifting and the idea of the convoy is itself becoming mainstream.
Yes, Sen. Paul is one of the more liberty-minded, anti-establishment GOP politicians. He’s no Mitch McConnell; he’s a real conservative.
However, he’s not the most populist of the GOP and the Freedom Convoy is, in effect, a populist revolt. In joining in and not just encouraging it, but encouraging truckers in America to do the same thing and come to America, Rand is joining in with the populist crowd and handing major legitimacy to the convoy.
Now, it has a big name GOP politician behind it, something that will hopefully give Trudeau a bit of a pause before he considers taking a tyrannical step and attacking it.
And in times like these, the Convoy and its spawn need all the help they can get. The French were sending armored cars to deal with the Freedom Convoy headed to Paris. Trudeau is sounding more and more like a dictator as he threatens to crush the trucker revolt in Canada. Brandon is calling on Canada to shut down the protest.
Rand Paul is just one voice, though certainly a major one. Hopefully, his support will encourage other mainstream political figures to start backing the convoy and cheering on the dispossessed that were so hurt and abused by pandemic policies.
