Trump Just Pulled this Critical Endorsement. Here’s Why

If Trump endorsements weighed anything, they’d be worth their weight in gold to the candidates receiving them. Unfortunately for Mo Brooks, Trump just pulled his endorsement from the Alabama Republican who’s not doing great in the 2022 Senate race. He announced as much in a statement, saying:

Mo Brooks of Alabama made a horrible mistake recently when he went “woke” and stated, referring to the 2020 Presidential Election Scam, “Put that behind you, put that behind you,” despite the fact that the Election was rife with fraud and irregularities. If we forget, the Radical Left Democrats will continue to Cheat and Steal Elections. Just look at what is happening in Wisconsin, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and elsewhere, but tremendous progress has been made that will help us in 2022 and 2024. The 2020 Election was rigged, and we can’t let them get away with it.

When I endorsed Mo Brooks, he took a 44-point lead and was unstoppable. He then hired a new campaign staff who “brilliantly” convinced him to “stop talking about the 2020 Election.” He listened to them. Then, according to the polls, Mo’s 44-point lead totally evaporated all based on his “2020” statement made at our massive rally in Cullman, Alabama. When I heard his statement, I said, “Mo, you just blew the Election, and there’s nothing you can do about it.” Very sad but, since he decided to go in another direction, so have I, and I am hereby withdrawing my Endorsement of Mo Brooks for the Senate. I don’t think the great people of Alabama will disagree with me. Election Fraud must be captured and stopped, or we won’t have a Country anymore. I will be making a new Endorsement in the near future!

Trump hit Brooks in a second statement too, one regarding voter fraud claims, saying:

Mo Brooks was a leader on the 2020 Election Fraud and then, all of sudden, during the big rally in Alabama, he went “woke” and decided to drop everything he stood for—when he did, the people of Alabama dropped him, and now I have done so also. The people get it, but unfortunately, Mo doesn’t.

As far as Mitch McConnell, I am not a fan and there’s been no harsher critic than me. He has been absolutely terrible, and very bad for the GOP. The sooner he leaves “Leadership,” the better off the Republican Party will be.

In fact, as Alabama Daily News reported, Brooks is falling far behind in the polls, coming in a distant third behind his primary challengers. As that outlet reports:

Mike Durant, the retired Army helicopter pilot of “Black Hawk Down” fame, leads a new poll in the race for U.S. Senate, with former Business Council of Alabama President Katie Britt running a close second and Congressman Mo Brooks falling far behind.

In a survey of likely Republican voters, 34.6% said they would vote for Durant if the election was held today, while 28.4% chose Britt and 16.1% chose Brooks. Just 14.1% remain undecided.

That’s a massive drop in support for Brooks, who was leading the race, holding a massive 40.8% of the vote, back in August. Now, in March, the “Black Hawk Down” pilot is in the lead.

And while Trump focused on election fraud in his statement, that might get at the bigger issue with Mo Brooks: he was losing.

Trump doesn’t like losing or being associated with losers, so his pulling of his endorsement now that Brooks is in a distant third might be less about voter fraud and more about keeping the image of his endorsements untarnished.

If he starts picking losers, they’ll be worth less and his influence over the GOP might be looking like it’s waning. If he can reorient and pick winners, then that might help him preserve his image.

Perhaps Trump really was just made about Brooks not echoing his talking points on the 2020 election. But, given the part in the statement about Brooks’ lead evaporating and Trump’s obvious desire to be a winner and be associated with winners, it’s perhaps more likely that Brooks is out in no small part because of how badly he’s doing.
