Musk Makes Wild Suggestion about What to Do with the Twitter HQ

Elon Musk has been having quite a wild week. Hot off the heels of his massive, multi-billion dollar Twitter stock purchase being announced, he opened the Tesla Gigafactory in Tony Stark-level style, whipping past a roaring crowd in a new Tesla convertible while wearing sunglasses and a cowboy hat as lasers danced across the room and lights flashed. It was epic:

That was awesome. But, Elon being Elon, he didn’t let that massive Gigafactory opening dim any of the buzz surrounding his other headline venture right now: a push to make Twitter a pro-free speech platform once again.

So, in a hilarious poll, Elon suggested turning the Twitter HQ into a homeless shelter, then, later followed that up by saying that he was serious about the suggestion (though the original poll was later deleted).

Before it was deleted, however, over one and a half million people voted, with over 90% voting yes. It would be hilarious, after all.

Further, it’s something that will likely spark yet more leftist outrage about his involvement with Twitter.

Already upset about the idea that someone who’s not to the far left might be involved in Twitter at the highest levels, leftists working at Twitter will likely be all the more enraged that Elon would dare make a joke about the homeless. They also probably don’t like the idea of having to give up their cushy office.

Other than the supposedly serious suggestion about turning the Twitter HQ into a homeless shelter, Musk has played his cards close to his chest, not really saying much about what he plans to do with his newfound stake in the company.

He did, however, ask if users wanted an edit button, in another Twitter poll, simply asking “do you want an edit button?”

As with the homeless shelter poll, the vast majority of respondents voted “yes.”

Twitter, shortly after that poll, announced that an edit button was in the works but said that Musk wasn’t responsible for its creation. The company announced that in a tweet, saying:

now that everyone is asking…

yes, we’ve been working on an edit feature since last year!

no, we didn’t get the idea from a poll 😉

we’re kicking off testing within
@TwitterBlue
Labs in the coming months to learn what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible.

If only the company could return to free speech and pretend it didn’t get that idea from a poll either. They’d have the indication they need, as Elon also asked about that in a poll, saying “Free speech is essential to a functioning democracy. Do you believe Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle? The consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully.”

As with the homeless poll and edit button, many voted and the overwhelming answer was what you’d expect: “no.”

However, given recent trends, that seems unlikely unless Elon kicks things up a notch and really starts pushing for free speech, something that many expect he is inclined to do but that he hasn’t yet done.
