Thank goodness Trump was in charge for 2017-2021 and able to place a number of conservatives on the Supreme Court. Even they sometimes disappoint us and refuse to take the tougher culture war stance that real conservatives would prefer, they’re far, far better than the woke radicals like Kentanji that the libs have shown an obvious preference for.
One such example of why their presence on the court is important now more than ever comes from First Liberty, which reports that the Supreme Court has taken the massive step of deciding to look into the case of a high school that fired a football coach for daring to pray.
That’s all he did; exercise his right to religious belief and pray to God. Instead of being praised for being an example to the youth, he was treated viciously by the school and fired for having the temerity to show his faith in a way his ancestors wouldn’t have had a single second thought about.
First Liberty, announcing the Supreme Court’s decision to hear the case in a press statement, said:
The U.S. Supreme Court has announced that it will hear oral arguments on Monday April 25th in the case Kennedy v. Bremerton School District. First Liberty Institute and Kirkland & Ellis LLP, led by veteran Supreme Court advocate Paul Clement, represent Joe Kennedy in his fight to get his job back. Kennedy, a former high school football coach, is asking the Supreme Court to reverse a lower court decision that allowed a school district to fire him because fans and students could see him take a knee in silent prayer after football games.
“No teacher or coach should lose their job for simply expressing their faith while in public,” said Kelly Shackelford, President and CEO of First Liberty. “By taking this important case, the Supreme Court can protect the right of every American to engage in private religious expression, including praying in public, without fear of punishment.”
Paul Clement, former U.S. Solicitor General, partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP and First Liberty volunteer attorney, said, “We look forward to presenting the Coach’s case, which goes to the heart of the First Amendment, to the Justices.”
Coach Kennedy added, “Six years away from the football field has been far too long. I am extremely grateful that the Supreme Court is going to hear my case and pray that I will soon be able to be back on the field coaching the game and players I love.”
By agreeing to take this case, the Court will have an opportunity to protect the right of every American to live out their faith, including praying in public, without the fear of punishment. The outcome could restore the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment and strike a serious blow against a bad legal precedent that’s harmed religious liberty for more than 30 years.
Former VP Mike Pence, speaking about Coach Kennedy’s situation and religious liberty in America, said:
“Americans of faith do not turn their devotion off and on like a light switch, and we must reject any attempt by the government to control private religious expression — especially those who call on their faith when answering the call to participate in public service. Advancing American Freedom will always stand up to unconstitutional restrictions on personal religious freedom and the free exercise of religion that are the lifeblood of our Republic.”
Of course, the libs went crazy over the decision, with an anti-God in schools group, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, saying:
“No child attending public school should have to pray to play school sports. No student should ever be made to feel excluded – whether it’s in the classroom or on the football field – because they don’t share the religious beliefs of their coaches, teachers or fellow students”
Of course they want to keep God out of schools. Then they can replace the gaping hole in the human heart created by his absence with wokeness. But, because of Trump’s SCOTUS appointments, at least religious liberty and the freedom to pray at one’s pleasure might be secured.
