According to a press release from Fox News, with last night’s broadcast legendary conservative talk radio and cable TV host Sean Hannity surpassed the late Larry King as the longest-running host of a primetime show in television history.
While Hannity’s accomplishment is indeed impressive, when we consider that Hannity is still only 61-years-old and that Larry King continued hosting Larry King Live into his late-70s, the milestone becomes even more remarkable and leaves us to wonder: For how long can Sean go?
According to Fox News:
“Today marks 25 consecutive years, six months, and 15 days at the helm of a primetime cable news program, breaking the previous longstanding record held by the late talk show host Larry King. As cable news’ most enduring personality, Hannity has been a staple of FNC’s primetime lineup since the launch of the network in 1996, where his candid style and passionate commentary have made him one of the most prominent and influential voices in the country.”
Hannity offered a brief and humble comment in acknowledging the achievement:
“I am extremely grateful to FOX News Media and to our loyal, dedicated viewers whom I am proud to serve every night.”
Hannity has been serving as a key on-air personality at the top-rated cable news network since its inception in 1996 when he teamed with the late Alan Colmes to form the tandem Hannity & Colmes. The partnership with the left-leaning Colmes was an immediate hit, offering balanced analysis and opinion from both sides of the political equation.
In 2009, Colmes announced his departure from the show and Hannity continued with the eponymously titled show that continues today.
Hannity’s tactics of no holds barred, in-your-face conservatism have served him well with both his syndicated radio show and the Fox News program. Over the years, he has frequently offered admiration for the late Rush Limbaugh as both a role model and trailblazer for his approach to conservative commentary, and that influence shows through regularly during his programs.
Hannity is passionate, unapologetically conservative, and well-prepared, and he doesn’t hold back when situations call for direct confrontations, particularly with prominent leftists.
Being unashamedly conservative has endeared Hannity to his fans, and that affection has enabled his success. No one in television can do what Hannity does for over a quarter of a century without strong ratings, something with which Hannity is very familiar. Whether on radio or Fox News, Hannity’s ratings have been stellar for decades, and that success continues. In the first quarter of this year, Hannity finished as the fourth highest-rated cable news program.
Sean Hannity has just set a record and one that is likely to continue to grow for years to come.
