A 50-year-old man from Boulder, Colorado, Wynn Bruce, is dead of his injuries after setting himself on fire outside the Supreme Court. He carried out the act at ar 6:05 p.m. on Friday evening.
According to the Hill, he did not perish at the scene but was airlifted by helicopter to a local hospital after the Supreme Court Police, Metropolitan Police, and Capitol Police responded to the incident; he died at the hospital. That evacuation by helicopter can be seen in this video:

Bruce was apparently a Buddhist climate activist, which somewhat explains why he turned himself into a human torch to protest climate change: during the run up the Vietnam War, a Buddhist monk in Vietnam set himself alight to protest the Catholic ruling regime. Perhaps Bruce was imitating that incident of self-immolation.
On Friday, Earth Day, a man now identified as Wynn Alan Bruce set himself on fire outside the Supreme Court, and he passed away Saturday.

There are other he could have been imitating too. The New York Post, reporting on the incident, notes that others have lit themselves on fire in Washington DC, saying:
The disturbing incident was just the latest act of self-immolation in Washington D.C.
In 2019, Arnav Gupta of Bethesda, Maryland set himself on fire outside the White House. He died shortly after due to his injuries.
In 1965, pacifist Norman Morrison was killed when he set himself on fire outside the Pentagon to protest the war in Vietnam.
As Breitbart reports, other climate activists flocked to the Internet to cheer Bruce’s decision even after it was announced that he had died of his injuries.
Washington Congressional candidate Rebecca Parson, for example, said “Climate activist Wynn Alan Bruce set himself on fire in front of the Supreme Court on Earth Day. He died from this act of self-immolation. Heed his warning. Take climate crisis seriously. End fossil fuels.”
Similarly, Dr. Kritee K, a Zen Buddhist priest and senior scientist at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), said “This guy was my friend. He meditated with our sangha. This act is not suicide. This is a deeply fearless act of compassion to bring attention to climate crisis. We are piecing together info but he had been planning it for at least one year. #wynnbruce I am so moved.”
Another climate crazy on Twitter said: “I invite you to pre-pitch the headline you want NYT to use when the human race collectively commits climate suicide. Go. We’re all committing suicide. Wynn Bruce just did it after great reflection.”
Still another said, “His name was Wynn Bruce and he self-immolated on Earth Day as an act of protest against government inaction on climate change which has been the greatest willful act of violence against all life on this planet.”
And, finally, here’s one more: “Wynn Alan Bruce died yesterday so everyone could knock off the “happy” Earth Day crap. His death was an act of generosity, self-sacrifice, giving his life so others might pay more attention to the degree of the threat to our climate, and what needs to be done. He’s a hero.”
