PA Republican Skewers Dr. Oz, Trump’s Pick, as a Liberal Phony

Recently, former President Donald Trump chose to back Dr. Oz for the Pennsylvania Senate race, choosing him over others that are generally seen as being more conservative candidates in what was widely seen as a massive mistake on former President Trump’s fault. Trump did so in a statement saying:

The Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has a tremendous opportunity to Save America by electing the brilliant and well-known Dr. Mehmet Oz for the United States Senate. I have known Dr. Oz for many years, as have many others, even if only through his very successful television show. He has lived with us through the screen and has always been popular, respected, and smart.

“Dr. Oz is Pro-Life, very strong on Crime, the Border, Election Fraud, our Great Military, and our vets, Tax Cuts, and will always fight for and support our under-siege Second Amendment. He will ensure America will become Energy Independent again.”

Well, candidate David McCormick, despite being a deeply conservative Republican, isn’t letting Trump’s support of Oz get in his way; he’s still running against Oz and planning on beating him in the state’s upcoming primary. So, to highlight his positions and how they compare to the liberal Dr. Oz’s positions.

Beginning, he contrasted himself with Oz, who he called a “Hollywood liberal,” generally, saying:

My track record is someone who grew up in Pennsylvania on the family farm, working on the family farm, and then went away to serve in our military, and then came back and was a job creator And I’m going to try to make a contrast with the other candidates, but particularly Mehmet, who really is a Hollywood liberal and someone whose positions are changing.

McCormick then added that Dr. Oz isn’t a populist conservative like he is, but is rather someone who used to be part of the liberal machine and is now just mouthing the right platitudes to try and win a Senate seat; if you look at his actual record, according to McCormick, it’s quite liberal. McCormick said:

“He’s reading a new script now, but this is a guy who has been part of the Hollywood machine for decades and has a long track record of positions on his shows and in his articles that are completely in conflict with what conservatives and Republicans of Pennsylvania think.”

Further, as has been pointed out in many tweets and as was pointed out by Breitbart, it’s not just that Oz is generally liberal, but that he supports the opposite of the conservative thing on lots of issues. For example, he’s been in support of stronger gun laws, something that no real conservative would ever get behind:

Perhaps Oz has changed and Trump is right to support him. But, based on his record on everything from fracking to abortion, gun rights to immigration, McCormick looks like the far, far more conservative choice for Pennsylvanians in this primary election, whatever Trump says.
