“What is a Woman?”: Here’s How Trump Responded When Piers Morgan asked the Now Famous Question

Recently, former President Donald Trump sat down with British leftist Piers Morgan for an interview. Why he would do such a thing is beyond many on the right, as such an interview was obviously a poor decision given how much the left hates him and wants to make him look bad.

Still, Trump’s never one to back down from or shy away from a fight, so he did the interview regardless of how it was likely to go and battled things out with Morgan, including on the topic of what women are.

Or, more specifically, perhaps, Trump was asked by Morgan “what is a woman?“, with Morgan adding “I think it’s grotesquely unfair. You know, you can support trans rights to equality and fairness, but also understand that what’s going on in sport is inherently unfair and unjust and unequal“.

Really, there were two questions buried in Morgan’s attempt to repurpose the right’s “gotcha” question for Kentanji Brown Jackson into a gotcha question for Trump. The first was if he agrees with Boris Johnson’s decision to ban men from women’s sports, and the second was the infamous “what is a woman” question.

Answering the first and siding with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Trump said:

I do, I do. I agreed with it long before anybody else. I think it’s ridiculous. And it’s bad for the Democrats because they’re not going to do that.”

A pretty good answer, particularly in how he pinned the blame for the whole situation on the Democrats.

Then Piers Morgan asked the second question, saying “One of the big questions being put to lots of politicians right now is what is a woman?” Responding to that, Trump hedged a bit, saying:

“I’m not going to respond to the question. But a woman is somebody that swims at a certain time and doesn’t get beaten by 38 seconds by somebody that wasn’t even a good swimmer as a man.”

He’d also referred to the men saying they’re women and dominating women’s sports earlier in the interview, saying “People see it and they won’t put up with it. They have a weightlifter where the record was for 11 or 12 years, and they put a half an ounce on each side the woman would lift. A guy comes along and breaks the record by numbers that you wouldn’t even believe.”

Why Trump wouldn’t just please his base by saying that women have XX chromosomes and men have XY chromosomes isn’t clear, as former President Trump obviously isn’t a leftist that would ideologically refuse to say such a thing.

Regardless, though it was disappointing that he refused to give a straight answer about the “what is a woman” issue, he did manage to make a good enough point in bringing up how transgender athletes can dominate women’s sports.

Perhaps we’ll get more of a clue about what was going on that might have caused Trump to not fully respond when the full interview comes out.
