With the announcement that Elon bought Twitter, conservatives who had ditched the woke platform during the worst of the Dorsey days of censorship have decided to return to it, hoping that the censorship will be, at the very least, less-bad, and also seeing their reason for leaving (a protest of Trump being kicked off the platform) as no longer being as important since the company will be under new management.
Two such conservatives are Tucker Carlson and Mark Levin, both of whom decided to return to Twitter in recent days thanks to Elon’s purchase of the company and the changes that could come to the platform.
Tucker returned after having left in protest of his own account’s censorship, posting a simple “we’re back” message:
We’re back.

Carlson had left the platform relatively recently. His account was censored for having “violated the Twitter rules” in late March of 2022 when he shared screenshots of two tweets, one by the Babylon Bee and one by Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Those tweets, captioned by Carlson with the comment “But wait. Both these tweets are true,” claimed that the transgender Assistant Secretary for Health, Rachel Levine, is a biological male. The Bee jokingly voted Levin “Man of the Year,” in a hilarious tweet and Kirk’s tweet said:
“Richard Levine spent 54 years of his life as a man. He had a wife and a family. He ‘transitioned’ to being a woman in 2011, Joe Biden appointed Levine to be a 4-Star Admiral and now USA Today has named ‘Rachel’ Levine as a ‘Woman of the Year’ Where are the feminists??”
Twitter censors obviously got upset about that and censored Tucker in retaliation and, though his account was still usable, Tucker chose to leave in protest of the censorship.
Similarly, Fox News host Mark Levin has returned to Twitter, posting his return in a tweet saying “Thanks to new ownership, I’ve decided to come back! 😊”
Thanks to new ownership, I’ve decided to come back! 😊

Tucker’s return is particularly meaningful, as he was one of the few conservatives at the top who was willing to defend the Babylon Bee’s statements about Rachel Levine and highlight the vicious censorship that those who express viewpoints contrary to the narrative have to deal with.
He, for example, hosted Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon on his show, where Dillon said:
“We don’t believe that facts are hate speech, that speaking truth is hate speech. At some point, people need to stick by this, Tucker. People have to be willing to say ‘listen, if they want us to deny the truth in order to stay on this platform, we speak the truth. Make them kick you off. Make them boot you.”
While Twitter’s moderation policies haven’t changed yet, it’s widely expected that they will once Elon fully takes over, as he’s known as a “free speech absolutist” and has said that he wants to protect all speech protected by the 1st Amendment on Twitter, which would mean that speech like the Bee’s and Tucker’s would be safe from “moderation.”
